The Scottish tech scene is gearing up for the Christmas season and there are some great events in the calendar for the final few weeks of 2018. Want to join in with the fun? Check out some of our highlights…

Startup Grind - From Stand Up to Startup

Hear from Anna Devitt at Startup Grind's next event in Glasgow. Anna has become a multi award-winning businesswoman, she started her business by opening an all-female comedy production company which went on to sell out at all major festivals throughout the UK.

She then embarked on challenging and changing the way we educate young people. Anna built Comedy & Confidence™ Training Program which was accredited under SCQF Levels, 3,4,5 & 6 and is a custom built SQA Award with funding support from the trust. She launched this training program in 2016 within Polmont Young Offenders. Since then she has adapted the organisation into a community interest company and the program has won several titles including Enterprise in Education ROCCOS 2016, Finalist for Best Start-up Company in Scotland Scottish Variety Awards 2017, Business Woman of the Year Finalist Best Start-Up Company 2017.

Scottish Tech Startup Awards

The team behind Turing Fest have put together the first ever Scottish Tech Startup Awards and they're taking place on the 29th of November. The whole point of the Awards is to bring the community together, and to help strengthen our collective identity; people are by far the most important element of a technical ecosystem, and Scotland doesn’t actually have that many opportunities for the startup community to get together.

RookieOven Meetup

Our meet up takes place on the first Monday of every month and is a great opportunity to catch up with the local tech scene. We like to keep things pretty informal, and everyone’s welcome. Come along to The Raven on Renfield Street at 6.30pm on Monday 3rd December to see for yourself! Find out more over on our Facebook page.

Drop In Day

Join us in RookieOven to get help from experts in the Scottish startup community. Our drop in days run on the first Friday of the month, and anyone is welcome to come along to find out more.

We're opening our doors for the day so that you can get first-hand advice from members of the community, including:

  • Andrew Farquhar and Anoop Joshi from Skyscanner's legal team
  • Andrew Sloane from Accelerated Digital Ventures
  • Stuart Mackay from Grant Thornton
  • Michael and Chris from Add Jam

Whether you're confused by data protection and legal agreements, looking to get your first bit of press coverage or you want to know more about investment and finances, we've got someone on hand to offer advice. It's the perfect opportunity to learn more about RookieOven and the Scottish tech scene.
